Can you be buried with your pet in Illinois?
Yes — and Forever Home Cemetery in Lincoln, Illinois was made for exactly that. In Illinois the cremated remains of people and of animals can be interred together. What is rare is a cemetery actually set up to do it. Most are for people or for pets, and families are asked to choose. Here, you don't have to.
There are only four cemeteries in Illinois that allow pets and people in the same grave site — and we are one of them.
🌿 How it works
Forever Home is a resting place for cremated remains. Families bring their loved one's ashes, in an urn or container, and they are interred gently in the ground. A single 3' × 5' plot can hold the cremated remains of as many as four people or pets, resting together in one place.
Most families come to us the same way: a beloved dog or cat passes, they reserve a plot, and they know that one day they'll be there too. A plot can be opened again for a later interment, so the order doesn't matter. Plots may be pre-purchased or purchased at the time of need.

You do not need to live in Logan County. Forever Home welcomes families from across Illinois and beyond, and because so few cemeteries allow people and pets to rest together, many families travel to be here.
Forever Home Cemetery sits on about two acres on the grounds of the Humane Society of Logan County, Illinois at 1803 N Lincoln Pkwy, Lincoln, IL 62656, just off Route 66. It was dreamed up by shelter volunteers in 2011 and approved by the City of Lincoln in 2012, and its proceeds help support the shelter and keep the grounds cared for.
