Frequently asked questions
Everything you might wonder about Forever Home Cemetery: resting beside your pet, plots and pricing, and visiting. Have another question? Reach out and we're glad to help.
Can a person and their pet be buried together in Illinois?
Yes. In Illinois, human and animal cremated remains can be interred together, and Forever Home Cemetery is one of the only cemeteries in the state where you can rest beside the pets you love. Each plot can hold the cremated remains of as many as four people or pets.
Do I have to live in Logan County?
Not at all. Forever Home welcomes families from across Illinois and beyond. Because a cemetery where people and their pets can rest together is so rare, people travel from all over the state to find one.
Where is Forever Home Cemetery, and how do I find it?
It's on the grounds of the Humane Society of Logan County, located behind the shelter at 1801 N Lincoln Pkwy in Lincoln, Illinois, along the Historic Route 66 corridor. Look for the Cemetery Office. Visits are by appointment; call (217) 737-4042 and we'll show you around.
Is Forever Home for cremated remains only?
Yes. Forever Home is for cremated remains (ashes), not caskets or full-body burials. Families bring their loved one's cremated remains, which are interred in the ground, and a single plot can hold the cremated remains of up to four people or pets, resting together. We don't provide cremation ourselves; families arrange that beforehand.
How much does a plot cost?
Plots (3' × 5') are $250 and may be pre-purchased or purchased at the time of need, and a single plot can hold the cremated remains of up to four people or pets. Opening for interment is $75, scattering in the rose garden is $35, and a memorial brick is $45. See our Memorial Options page for everything.
Can I visit or take a tour before deciding?
Absolutely. Coming to see the grounds in person is the best way to choose a spot. Give us a call to arrange a personal tour; visits are by appointment.
What are the ways to memorialize a pet or a loved one?
Plots for cremated remains, a scatter garden, personalized memorial bricks along the walkway, grave markers, urns and benches, and the gazebo at the center for memorial services and gatherings.
Is Forever Home Cemetery part of the Humane Society?
Yes, it's a project of the Humane Society of Logan County, started by shelter volunteers, and its proceeds help care for the grounds and support the animals in the shelter.
Do you honor service dogs or K9 officers?
Yes. Our K9 Honor Program offers dignified burial plots for the Logan County and City of Lincoln K9 dogs, honoring their service.
